Starting work in Australia after arriving from overseas

Tax File Number

First up is your Tax File Number. We recommend that as a backpacker in Oz, you should apply for a TFN as soon as you arrive in Australia, so that you have it ready to give to your employer as soon as you start work.

Find a job Down Under

Next up is the job search! There are thousands of job board websites in Oz that can help you find the perfect job for you. Time to get your CV out and start applying!

Starting your new job in Oz

All that's left is getting started with your new job Down Under. Give your TFN to your employer as soon as you start work to avoid overpaying tax. Also, don't forget to keep hold of your payslips (they'll come in handy when claiming your Oz tax refund at the end of the year!)
