Starting work in Australia after arriving from overseas
Tax File Number
First up is your Tax File Number. We recommend that as a backpacker in Oz, you should apply for a TFN as soon as you arrive in Australia, so that you have it ready to give to your employer as soon as you start work.

Starting your new job in Oz
All that's left is getting started with your new job Down Under. Give your TFN to your employer as soon as you start work to avoid overpaying tax. Also, don't forget to keep hold of your payslips (they'll come in handy when claiming your Oz tax refund at the end of the year!)

Superannuation, or 'super', is a retirement fund system in Australia. If you are over 18 your employer will contribute into a Super fund on your behalf.
